About the Project

Acme Bread is a bakery with 2 retail locations and 2 wholesale locations spread across the Bay Area. Their existing custom-coded website was old, outdated, and in desperate need of a redesign. I helped them launch a new Squarespace website that is much easier for their team to maintain and better reflects the quality and reputation of their business.

My Approach

I started by coming up with a mockup of the homepage in Figma to get stakeholder approval on the overall look and feel before building the website out in Squarespace.

One of the improvements I wanted to make on the old design was to simplify the site structure by consolidating and combining similar pages. I also wanted browsing the website to feel like walking into one of their retail locations – which meant lots of imagery of delicious bread and friendly faces, as well as integrating some of their famous hand-painted illustrated signage showcasing their products that decorate the walls of their shop.

The Result

The new site features a more simplified navigation structure, with over 20 pages from the old website consolidated into just 7 on the new website. The homepage is warm and inviting, and showcases previews of other pages on the website. The product page features a clean grid design and simple navigation making use of anchor links throughout the page. I isolated and edited illustrations from some of their hand painted signage displayed in their shop, and integrated them seamlessly into the website.
